My Daughter Rose was born with Congenital Heart Defects. 23 weeks into my pregnancy, Rose was diagnosed with Borderline Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and Severe Narrowing of the Aorta. Making an early appearance at 37 weeks and 4 days, Rose was born on 7th September 2022 at Evelina Children's Hospital which resides at St Thomas & Guys Hospital, London and passed away 8 days later on 15th September 2022.
The NICU nurses cared for Rose like secondary mothers. As well as being amazing at their job, they talk to and tenderly comfort babies on their ward which assured us when leaving Rose in their care. They kept us up-to-date with any changes in Rose's health and allowed us to assist in her care. Our Palliative Care Specialist Nurse (Liz) helped to create memories with Rose such as hand & footprints and arranging for us to take Rose out in the pram around the hospital gardens in her final hours.
EACH support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Belle (Palliative care) was delegated to us whilst at Evelina. Belle attended our appointments through Full-Term pregnancy, helped with difficult conversations, accommodation, bereavement, financial support and lots more.
Belle organised everything, and linked below are a few of the charities she introduced us to...
Ronald McDonald Houses are located as close as possible to a specialist children’s hospitals across the UK. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life and reducing emotional and financial strain.
So when you next order a McDonalds, spare a thought for Rose and many other families like us and donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charity via the selfservice touchscreen, or drive-through window, nomatter how small.
Sands supports anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. They are dedicated to providing emotional support and information right from the early hours after a baby's death, through to the weeks, months and years ahead.
Sands is working with bereaved parents, world-leading researchers and clinicians into Understanding why babies die and keeping up the pressure on the Government to see a much faster and greater fall in baby deaths in the future.
The Butterfly Fund provides one-off payments to families following the death of a child and the number of grants they can provide is limited by the amount of funds they are able to raise. This year they have supported 446 families through the fund. Unfortunately, this important organisation is temporarily paused due to low funding.
Please donate to this essential charity to help support bereaved families suffering financial hardship on top of coping with their grief and loss.
